Microsites - Landing Page Meets Website

Have Any Of You Heard of "Will it Blend"?

Well in case you haven't, it is a website where the CEO of a blender company, yes a blender company blends anything and everything.  From Glowsticks to an iPhone.  This site does one thing and does it well, it sells blenders!  And the site is rather entertaining in the process

So what do blenders have to do with the Car business?  or for that matter any business? (except for the blender business of course)

It focuses on a specific product...PERIOD

It is a website that does not talk about the company, it's heritage, parts or service...investor relations or dozens of other things people looking for a specific product or offering don't much care about.  Apply this to the car business.  If you are a consumer looking to buy the All New Honda Accord Coupe in Westchester NY, do you care about "A Discounted Oil Change", a "Honda Odyssey Minivan", probably not.  None of those are likely to peak your interest.  BUT, what if you (the consumer) landed on a page, a mini-site that talked all about the New Honda Accord Coupe, how many the dealer in Westchester had in stock, what options and features these Accord Coupes had, and what incentives were being offered.  Then, to make this mini-site colorful, this site had an All New Accord Coupe on YouTube racing down a local highway, or crashing (I know terrible)  or something exciting, wouldn't that provoke interest?

Lets take it a step further...

Lets say this site had consumer reviews about the car, both likes & dislikes, as well as the dealers "Used Inventory" specific to this car (if available).  What about giving a prospective buyer the ability to chat immediately with an actual salesman at the store in real-time,  What if the salesperson could offer the prospective client a great lease option only available on-line.  (If this lease deal was truly only available on line it would drive allot more business to websites in general and dramatically reduce costs but that is the topic of another post...  )  Now factor into this mini-site or as we will soon call it a "microsite" directions to your dealership texted to the buyers cellphone and a current traffic report as well as the best route to get there....That would be impressive.  All this geared towards a specific model car...It may seem like allot of work but it's not.  This highly targeted site is more than just a landing page, but less than a full fledged website.  This site is...

A Microsite

I know we gave away the name already but we wanted to make a great introduction to what could reveloutionize the car biz on the web.  A microsite is a highly target, very specific, entertaining mini-site that should NOT be part of your website, but as a stand alone.  It will of course link to your website, but if it does it's job, allot of the work in convincing a consumer to buy a car from you is done.  The bottomline is Microsites keep consumers engaged and wanting more.
